COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the recommended therapy option for treating anxiety and low mood/ depression. We work together to look at what thoughts and behaviour patterns are causing you emotional distress. We then work together to change those behaviours to more helpful ones, to identify unhelpful thinking patterns or beliefs and make them more realistic or challenge them. We then create a relapse prevention plan to make sure that you stay well in the future once your sessions have finished.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Sarah M.

Learning how to control my worrying has helped me get my life back and enjoy things again. I'm confident that I can use the tools I've learnt if I need them again in the future.

F. B.

I was sceptical at first but Emma really listened to my difficulties and helped me understand why I was having flashbacks. I hated the homework but now I have my life back and can move on. I never thought the flashbacks would go away.

Beth W.

I came to Emma to help with my fish phobia. I just wanted to be able to go paddle boarding and dip my toes in the sea with my husband but I've actually managed to go snorkelling surrounded by fish! I was anxious but didn't panic! Thank you!

Learn About My Methods

The sessions are offered online, via Microsoft Teams. I recommend that you find a quiet, confidential space to speak. In CBT we explore the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours to instil self-understanding among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and therapist. Throughout our sessions we'll be working towards teaching you to become your own therapist. This way you can continue to use the skills and techniques you have learnt even after the sessions have ended. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an evidenced based practice recommend by the NICE guidelines as a first line treatment for:

Depression

Generalized anxiety disorder

Panic Attacks

Agoraphobia

Social anxiety

Specific phobias

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Adjustment Disorder

It can also be effective when used to treat:

Stress management

Living well with a long Term Health Condition

Low self esteem

Body image difficulties

Low confidence

Sleep difficulties

Skin picking
